An Introduction

Here we go again. |
Coming up with new blog names is hard. You'll be lucky to come up with something original, short and memorable, and not already had it's domain name taken by some ancient slice of Blogger that hasn't been updated in over a decade. So I when I finally came up with "Hackjob": a name that I think more or less perfectly sets the tone for this blog and it's content, turns out the most obvious choice for a domain name redirects you to some random Indonesian news site. So, if somebody from Aktual.com, the so-called owners of "hackjob.blogspot.com" ever stumbles upon this blog; go eat a bag of dicks. Anyways, an introduction.
I'm YALE70; I'm a tinkerer, gearhead, techie and a worse gamer than I'm willing to admit. Some of you might know me from an old blog called StudioYale, which I originally started my freshman year of high school as a blog for reviewing Nerf blasters, though I later started to get into tech and gaming reviews as well. Unfortunately, it began contending with my rapidly decreasing free-time due to work and school, and frankly it wasn't cheap to keep running in the way I was accustomed to. My interest waning, I quit, leaving that dusty old place to be swallowed up by the bowels of the internet.
Truth be told, I never lost interest in voicing my opinions and sharing whatever monstrosities I've created in the sweltering heat of my garage. The COVID pandemic actually helped reignite my desire to blog. I spent so much of my free time doing things and thinking "Damn! I could really be writing about this!" but I also didn't want to continue writing in the same old format I had walled myself into prior. I think that was the biggest issue with the old blog, was that it was set up primarily as a point-by-point review site and anything else I tried alongside that clashed pretty heavily with the established norm there.
I plan on this blog being somewhat being different in that regard. Yes, I'm still going to talk about a lot of the same stuff and yes, I'm still going to do reviews, but I'm no longer going to be writing in order to meet some "0 out of 10" review scale. So I'm going to set the expectation right off the bat: posts here are going to be more "freeform" and I'm not going to focus on any one subject in particular. I will say this though: if you're a tinkerer or gadget fan like myself, you might find my ramblings at least a little interesting.
I don't anticipate posts to be coming through here with any fixed regularity since I am after all, a debt-crushed engineering grad with not much free time on my hands, but I want to get back out there and hopefully provide some valuable insights and maybe a few laughs for you guys to enjoy. We'll see where this goes from here! Thanks for stopping by.
